Joel Pelletier's
painting
American Fundamentalists (Christ's Entry into Washington in
2008) depicts the return of Christ in 2008 to
post-apocalyptic America. The eerie work is based on the famous
painting James Ensor's
"Christ's Entry into Brussels in
1889" which is in the Getty Museum. The work began at
the start of 2004 and was finished and first went on display in
July in California before the election results were known. It
features a
cast of
121 characters from the start of democracy to an apparent
Armageddon during Bush's second term which brings about the
return of Christ. It has begun a tour around the United
States and has been shown so far in Illinois, Wisconsin, and
Colorado.
